Teach myself Piano? (With Garageband)?

Ive waned to learn to play an instrument for years. I did try drums once, but it didn’t work for me. I would really like to try and compose a little myself, but that of course requires, that im able to use an instrument.

So now im thinking of investing in a MIDI keyboard, now that i have an Apple computer with Garageband. Books and such might also be interesting later on, but im starting with listening to Tim from the “Piano lessons” in Garageband. (Ive been watching the first lesson without the keyboard, and i found it fairly simple (i know its just the basics of course).

But does anyone have som experience with self-teaching/Garageband?
Were you able to, in the end, read and play different sheets of music?
Thank you very much for the helpfull answers :)

It sounds possible (tho it sounds rather tricky to avoid those bad habits as well ;) ).

But now that i need this keyboard; Is a 49-note keyboard enough, or should i aim higher?

go to youtube and search for iwillbot and he has links to his other channel where he gives piano lessons, he’s really good, and the lessons are really helpful.
